Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics
There are 22 Institutes of Technology/Polytechnics n New Zealand. Courses are usually vocational and skills-based, ranging from certificate level through to bachelor degree and postgraduate level. Every Polytechnic is known for its quality education and unique delivery of courses. UNITEC, Waiariki Institute of Technology, Manukau Institute of Technology, CPIT and WELTEC are very popular names among aspiring students.
Private tertiary and training institutions
There are a growing number of private tertiary and training providers offering good range of courses and study options like professional certificates, diplomas and degrees in a diverse range of subjects including the arts, hospitality, computer studies, quality management, ecotourism and others. New Zealand Qualification Authority is the quality controlling body which has more than 800 such establishments registered with it. About a quarter of these are Kiwi owned and operated.
Teacher training
New Zealand is internationally known and recognised for its excellent education standards and for training high-quality teachers through its six government-funded institutions. Two among these operate within universities and the other four offer programs in collaboration with their regional university. They provide training for early childhood, primary, secondary, special and tertiary (higher education) levels teachers.
English language training sector
Private English language schools offer a variety of courses including adventure, business and academic programs for all age groups. Adventure courses maintain a perfect balance of English language tuition and stimulating activity as per the choice of students. There are courses in English for fulfilling needs for business purposes and courses to train students for IELTS testing.
Tertiary institutions also provide English language course for further study or foundation courses.
Wãnanga
Wãnanga is the term in Mãori language used for the Mãori providers of tertiary education and advanced study on Mãori custom and tradition, usually in the Mãori language.
